Yummy Korean BBQ

So on the second day of our trip we took a drive around the island. I had my mind set on going to a shrimp truck in the North Shore, but we have picky eaters. The experience would not have been enjoyable with the voices of pickiness in the background.

We started the drive early in the morning, so by mid afternoon we were finished. I decided to introduce JP to the Ala Moana food court. JP was in food overload. Of course the kids went straight for Sbarro's. That was a given. lol We sat the kids down and took a look around. JP could not decide. There were so many choices he didn't know what to do. Ha ha! I was upset to see they took Tsuyrua away! That was my spot back in the day. They still have the Pearlridge location. After much wandering and deliberation. We ended up at Yummy Korean BBQ. I've always dug them. I was missing my watercress, so I decided on that. JP was still confused, and finally followed suit.

Now, I can have Kal Bi really quit often here in SC. My Mother In Law makes a mean Kal Bi. But,I haven't had Yummy's in years so that was my choice. I got my cold cabbage, watercress, Kim Chee, and something else. I forget. Yum! Everything was good. Just as I remembered it.

JP chose Meat Jun, with some of the same sides I got. He loved it! He's never had Meat Jun before, but really liked it a lot! As you can see, both of our plates were piled high with food. Neither of us finished these plates. Underneath the meat piled on the rice was more meat. In addition to your four side choices, you get two scoops of rice and mac salad. We really could have just shared.

Once again a very enjoyable meal. I'm still trying to get over how expensive these plates have gotten. But, you still are getting a deal with all the food they give you. Yummy's is still good on my list. They have several locations throughout the island. This location was that the Ala Moana Shopping Center. We did walk around the mall a bit, which is still the same.

We saw a band playing while we were there. They had hula dancers too. Didn't get them though.
Anyhoo, check Yummy Korean BBQ out if you ever come to da islands. Yum yum yummy! ha ha

Baldwins Shaved Ice and Snack Shop

I'm kind of going out of order here. But, I wanted to show some of the little side snacks we had. In addition to having delicious meals, we had some snacks here and there.

On the day we climbed Diamond Head, I took JP by Baldwins Shaved Ice and Snack shop in Aiea. It is located in the Waimalu Shopping Center. It's been there for as long as I can remember. I used to work across the street from the shopping center. Baldwins sells candy and local treats. They also are known for their shaved ice. We specifically went for the shaved ice. We did take a look around at all of the candy and treats they had. JP actually ended up buying some Yogurt covered pretzels. I had already bought some Rock Salt Plum and Li Hing Mui candies from somewhere else. The prices at Baldwins were pretty reasonable. JP left the ordering to me, since he'd never been there. I got us two Tutti Frutti's with ice cream. Man! It was sooo good. Just the way I remembered. I don't know what all is in that Tutti Frutti, but that flavor is so delicious! The ice cream in the center is like a added bonus. It's soft and creamy. It was a great treat to have after that hike up the crater. Plus, it was cheaper and probably far better than that truck they had set up at Diamond Head. So again, if your in the area. Check them out! They have a ton of flavors to choose from. You can get it without ice cream. You can also add Azuki beans or Li Hing powder. Yum yum!

We bring you foods from Hawaii!

Hi all! This is going to be a series of posts. We ate at so many places we can't post them all at once. Just on our trip alone we took over a thousand pictures! So compiling all the food pics, is going to be a labor of love. lol

To start off, I first and foremost always miss my family and friends. In addition to missing them, I of course miss all the wonderful food. Hawaii has such a diverse cuisine. Because there are so many different ethnicity's in the islands. There are so many different foods to discover. I'm always missing all the local treats.

This was JP's first trip to Hawaii. I was so excited to show him around and let him try out all the good food! I wanted to make sure he got a full taste of what Hawaii had to offer. The first place we went to was Jurison's. I know this probably wasn't the best place to start. But, we were tired and hungry, and I actually like them. I have always liked Jurison's. I used to work down the street from there, so I had to go. Jurison's is located at the Waikele Outlet. Waikele is popular with tourists, so it's always crowded. Anyhoo, we got to Jurison's and it seemed they were doing some kind of construction in there. Not sure what they were building. *shrugs* Other than that, it still looked the same.
We also were the only people there. I didn't have to see the menu, because I already knew what I wanted. I ordered us both the #2 Bento, Mochiko Chicken and Terri Beef. Yum!

This is what we got! I'm having flashbacks of goodness! JP was shocked at all the food they give you. I will say this though, the prices of plate lunches have gone up in the last few years. Must be the economy. Just for the two of us was almost $20! We didn't even order drinks! We drank water. Geez. The plate comes with several pieces of Teriyaki Beef, a heaping helping of Mochiko Chicken, Kimchee, Two Scoops Rice w/Furikake, Fried Noodles, and dipping sauce for the Mochiko Chicken. Whew!

This was enough food for everybody and they mama! Neither of us finished these plates. JP loved it! We both left, feeling very satisfied and happy. :) Their fried noodles are one of my faves. There Mochiko is awesome too. I love the sauce. The Terri beef is good, but I'm not really a Terri beef person. Overall the food was very good. They certainly are very generous with the helpings too.

You can see where they were doing some kind of construction on the side there. Jurison's is still bangin for me, even after being away for years. JP also gave it two thumbs up. If you are ever in Hawaii, check them out.

My Attempt at Cake Balls

Yum yum! I found this recipe on Bakerella's blog. This woman knows how to create some really creative baked goodies. I love just looking at her site. I attempted to make her basic cake ball recipe for my kids class. You can check her site for the recipes.

I am really not much of a baker. Maybe, because I never really attempted to. After trying these out, I think I might have to start baking a little more. I did have a little trouble at first, but it got better after I found a good technique. JP helped me out too, and gave me some good ideas.

These are my balls before I stuck them in the fridge. Looking good already. I probably could eat that right now! LOL I can't though, still eating healthy. :(

This is how they looked after they chilled out in the fridge overnight.

These were still cold and I cut it with a knife. I let the kids sample the messed up ones, and they loved them! Hopefully they will be a hit with the classes.

Also, just to let you all know. Banginfood will be on the road. Well really not the road, but we'll be across the ocean visiting family in Hawaii! We can't wait. We will be coming back with loads of content. We most definitely plan to do a lot of eating! Woo hoo! Ciao for now
